What this policy covers

This policy explains what information YouDance.com collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website, student and parent accounts, and anything else you do with our platform.

Information we collect

  • Account info — name and email, collected when you sign up.
  • Student profiles — first name, avatar selection, birth year and month (or adult status), and a schedule preference. This information is provided by the parent account holder.
  • Progress data — which chapters and quizzes a student has completed, so we can track their progress.
  • Payment info — handled entirely by our payment processor (Stripe). We store only a customer identifier; we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Basic usage logs — pages visited, error reports, and similar technical data used to keep the service running smoothly.

How we use information

We use the information above to deliver the service you signed up for: creating accounts, unlocking content, tracking progress, processing payments, and sending account-related emails (such as verification, password resets, and receipts). We do not sell personal information.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

YouDance is designed for families and is intended to be used by children under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. We take the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously and have built the product to minimize the information we hold about children.

No direct collection from children. Children do not create or log into their own accounts. A parent or guardian creates and manages each student profile from their own account, and is the one who provides the limited information in it. We do not ask children for personal information, and there is no way for a child to publicly post, message, or share information through YouDance.

What we hold about a child, and why. A student profile contains only what's needed to personalize age- appropriate lessons and track progress: a first name (or nickname), a chosen avatar from a fixed set we provide (no photo uploads), birth month and year (or an “adult” flag) to gauge age-appropriate content, a schedule preference, and lesson/quiz progress. We collect no more than is reasonably necessary for a child to take part.

Parental rights. At any time, the parent or guardian may:

  • Review the personal information in a student profile;
  • Correct or update it from the parent dashboard;
  • Delete a student profile and its associated progress data; and
  • Refuse to permit further collection or use of a child's information by deleting the profile or closing the account.

We do not condition a child's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary, we do not use children's information for behavioral advertising, and we do not sell it. To exercise any of these rights or ask a question, contact support@youdance.com.

Who we share with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the platform — for example, Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payments), Vimeo (video hosting), and an email delivery service for transactional emails. These vendors are contractually bound to use your information only to provide their service to us.

Your choices

You can update your account info or delete student profiles from the app. To close your account or request a full copy of your data, email support@youdance.com.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards (encrypted connections, hashed passwords, row-level database security) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you as required by applicable law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep account and profile information for as long as the account is active so the service works as expected. When you delete a student profile, its progress data is removed. When you close your account, we delete or de-identify the personal information associated with it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, or accounting obligations (for example, payment records held by our processor). To request deletion, email support@youdance.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. When we do, we'll update the “last updated” date above and (for material changes) notify account holders by email.
